Speak your language. They hear theirs.

TalkFerry is a real-time voice translator for VRChat, Discord and PC games. You talk into your microphone; the people you play with hear you in their language. On your phone, it translates a conversation with the person sitting across from you.

5 free minutes to start. No card and no subscription.

What they get: your voice and a caption, in Japanese

What you see: a panel on top of the game

A conversation has two directions. TalkFerry handles both.

Two switches in one small panel. Turn on the one you need, or both.

Translate

Your voice, in their language

You say, You say, in English Want to take a photo together?

They hear, They hear, in Japanese 一緒に写真を撮りませんか?

  • A voice, not only text. The translation is spoken into a virtual microphone, so it reaches everyone in the room or the call.
  • Simultaneous. It starts speaking while you are still talking and usually stays a second or two behind you.
  • Subtitles in VRChat. The same line appears in the chatbox above your avatar.

Understand

Their voice, in your subtitles

They say, They say, in Korean 다음 월드로 같이 갈래요?

You read, You read, in English Want to go to the next world together?

  • Live captions. What the room says shows up in your language in a panel that stays on top of the game.
  • Or listen. Have the translation read out in your headphones as well.
  • Out of the way. The panel is click-through, so your clicks still go to the game.

Wherever you pick a microphone, it works

TalkFerry shows up as a microphone on your PC. There is no plugin, no bot to invite and nothing for the other side to install.

  • VRChat

A translated voice through your mic and subtitles in the chatbox above your avatar.

  • Discord

Voice channels, group calls and direct calls. It is your input device, not a bot.

  • PC games with voice chat

Talk to teammates in their language without giving up frames: the work happens in the cloud.

  • Live subtitles

Read what other people say, translated, while the game or the call keeps running.

Across a table, one phone is enough

The Android app splits the screen in two and turns the far half around, so the person opposite reads it the right way up. Each of you holds your own button and talks.

  • Spoken and shown. The translation plays from the speaker and appears in large type.
  • Nothing for them to install. They only need to look at your phone.
  • One balance. The phone and the PC use the same minutes.

Requirements and step-by-step setup

Pay for the minutes you talk

A minute is time the translator spends processing speech. Pauses and silence are free. In our own testing, an hour of lively conversation used about 19 minutes.

Minute packs are one-time purchases in the Android app through Google Play, and the PC uses the same balance. Minutes do not currently expire.

Good to know before you start

  • It needs an internet connection. There is no offline mode.
  • Audio goes through our server to Google Gemini for translation. We do not store it, but while we are on Gemini’s unpaid tier Google may use it to improve its products, so keep confidential conversations out of it. Privacy policy
  • Machine translation makes mistakes, mostly with names, slang and people talking over each other.
  • The panel is a desktop window. It is not shown inside a VR headset on its own.

Questions people ask first

What is TalkFerry?

TalkFerry is a real-time voice translator. On a Windows PC it translates your microphone into another language and sends the translated voice into VRChat, Discord or any game with voice chat, and it can subtitle what other people say. On an Android phone it translates a face-to-face conversation on a split screen. Both apps use one account and one minute balance.

Do the people I talk to need to install anything?

No. On PC, TalkFerry acts as your microphone, so everyone else simply hears the translated voice in the app they already use. On the phone, one phone is enough: the other person reads and listens on the half of the screen that faces them.

How fast is the translation?

It is simultaneous rather than sentence by sentence: the translated voice starts while you are still talking and usually runs about one to two seconds behind you. The panel shows the current delay. Speed depends on your connection and on how busy the translation service is.

Do I need a powerful PC, a graphics card or an API key?

No. The translation runs in the cloud, so TalkFerry does not use your GPU and leaves your frame rate alone. There is no API key to create or paste: you sign in with Google and start. You do need an internet connection.

Which languages does TalkFerry support?

74 languages, including English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian, Thai and Vietnamese. Any of them can be the language you speak or the language the other person hears. The language you speak can also be detected automatically.

How much does TalkFerry cost?

Every account starts with 5 free minutes, no card needed. After that you buy minute packs in the Android app: 60 minutes for $6.99, 200 minutes for $19.99 or 500 minutes for $44.99. There is no subscription. The price shown in Google Play, in your currency and with local taxes, is the one you pay.

What counts as a minute?

The time the translator spends processing speech, including about two seconds after each sentence while it finishes. Silence is not counted. In our own testing, an hour of lively conversation used roughly 19 minutes. Understand mode uses minutes faster because it processes everything it hears.

Is what I say private?

Audio is streamed through our server to Google Gemini, which does the translation. We do not record or store your audio or the transcripts. While TalkFerry runs on Gemini’s unpaid tier, Google may use what is said to improve its products and human reviewers may read or listen to it, so do not use TalkFerry for anything confidential. The privacy policy has the details.
